At the heart of the thematic activities at the IWA is the guiding principle of integrated hydraulic engineering, with the core elements: Utilizing Water – Protecting Water – Protection from Water. This includes our research areas and competencies in the field of renewable energy with sustainable hydropower, integrated flood risk management, (eco-)hydraulics, research on flowing waters and river construction, with a focus on solid matter budget, sediment transport, river morphology and restoration, as well as transport infrastructure in the area of waterways.
