At the core of the thematic activities of the IWA lies the guiding principle of integrated hydraulic engineering, with its key elements: utilizing water, protecting water, and protection from water. This encompasses our research areas and expertise in renewable energy with sustainable hydropower, integrated flood risk management, (eco-)hydraulics, river research, and river engineering. The focus is on sediment management, sediment transport, river morphology, river restoration, and waterway infrastructure.
